COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Small groups have turned out to protest outside Planned Parenthood clinics in Iowa and Nebraska as part of a nationwide effort to pressure lawmakers to defund the women’s health group. About two dozen protesters demonstrated Saturday outside of a clinic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Organizer Terri Naegele says passing motorists have overwhelmingly expressed their support, with the odd middle finger or curses coming from a few cars.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Edward Tipper, a World War II paratrooper who was portrayed in the HBO series “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 95. His daughter, Kerry Tipper, says he died Feb. 1 in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. Edward Tipper was a member of Easy Company and parachuted into Normandy as part of the June 6, 1944, Allied D-Day invasion of France. The company’s exploits were retold in “Band of Brothers,” based on research by historian Stephen Ambrose.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities at the Polk County Jail say they’re investigating allegations that drugs and other contraband are being smuggled in. Des Moines television station KCCI reports that Polk County sheriff’s Lt. Rich Blaylock confirmed that his office is investigating. That confirmation came after KCCI received an anonymous letter Thursday saying a jail detention officer had been fired after allegations that the officer was selling drugs and tobacco to inmates.

CLARION, Iowa (AP) — A Clarion man pleaded guilty in federal court to receiving child pornography. The Globe Gazette reports that 24-year-old Jonathan Dean Sebert entered the plea Thursday. Prosecutors say he admitted that between August 2012 and January 2015, he knowingly received images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Sebert faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and up to 20 years when he’s sentenced at a later date.
