CHICAGO (AP) — Clayton Kershaw defused the Cubs’ bats, pitching the Dodgers to a 1-0 win in Game 2 of the NLCS. The Dodgers left-hander retired the first 14 hitters he faced and only gave up two hits in seven innings while striking out six and walking one. Adrian Gonzalez homered in the second inning off of Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks to help tie the series at a game each.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. (AP) — Dak Prescott continued his impressive rookie season by throwing for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the Cowboys’ 30-16 win over Green Bay. Prescott set an NFL record for most consecutive passes without an interception to open a career with 176. Safety Morgan Burnett ended the streak with a diving interception late in the third quarter.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady made a successful return to Gillette Stadium by throwing for 376 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-17 win over Cincinnati. Brady played his first game at home since last season’s playoff after serving a four-game suspension for his part in “Deflategate.”
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Will Lutz booted a 52-yard field goal with 11 seconds left while Drew Brees threw for 465 yards and four touchdowns to give New Orleans a 41-38 win over Carolina. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton return after missing a game with a concussion. He threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score as the defending NFC champs fell to 1-5.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kevin Harvick roared to the front on the final restart to win the Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway. Harvick held off Carl Edwards over the final 30 laps to advance to the round of eight in the Chase playoffs.
