Iowa State seeking strong finish after ugly 1-6 start

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State’s first season under coach Matt Campbell will end in a month. How the Cyclones perform over the next four weeks could be a strong indicator of where they’re headed. Iowa State (1-6, 0-4 Big 12) will almost certainly finish with a losing record for the seventh year in a row. But the Cyclones still have a lot to play for over the next five games, even if that’s mostly just playing time in 2017 and beyond.

Iowa State, which had a much-needed bye last weekend, hosts Kansas State (4-3, 2-2) on Saturday and No. 16 Oklahoma just five days later. Campbell says the aim has been to “stay the course,” when he was asked what he wanted to see from his team in its remaining games. He says they haven’t talked about winning games — rather, they’ve talked about the process it takes to be successful.
