A tired or possibly intoxicated driver may have been the cause of a crash near Avoca Saturday night that sent at least three people to the hospital. According to law enforcement reports prior to the crash, the vehicle was seen weaving over the road. Just before 9-p.m. State Radio reported the car had rolled into the median west of Avoca off Interstate 80.

The Iowa DOT’s 511-ia website indicated I-80 westbound was closed in both lanes for several hours, along with the left lane of I-80 eastbound, which was closed until about midnight. The accident took place between Exit 34 (Shelby) and Exit 40 (Avoca).
