The Griswold Tigers had three backs top 100 yards on the ground as they ran to a 36-12 victory over Riverside at home on Friday night.  The Tigers leaned on their strong offensive line and wore down the Bulldogs, especially in the second half.  Kickoff for the game was delayed by about 40 minutes due to lighting in the area but once things got going at around 7:40pm mother nature cooperated for the rest of the night.

The Tigers were led on the ground by their top defensive star Wyatt Robinette.  He took advantage of some increased carries for Griswold this game and had 182 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries.  His total included a 74 yard touchdown run that put the Tigers up 14-0 in the first half.  Jadon Jahnke carried 27 times for 160 yards and 1 touchdown while Chance Mace had 112 yards on 12 carries and got in the end zone twice.

Griswold vs Riverside 09-09-2016Riverside had some flashes of good play throughout the night but were hampered by penalties and mistakes in key moments throughout the game. On their first offensive possession of the game the Bulldogs drove down to the Griswold 3 yard line and looked poised to tie the game and potentially take the lead.  But the Bulldogs couldn’t punch it in after an illegal procedure call followed by an incomplete pass on fourth down ended the drive.  Tanner Storrow and Val Andrusyshyn accounted for Riverside’s two scores with rushing touchdowns.

Griswold improves to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in Class A District 7 play. Riverside falls to 0-3 and 0-1 in district play.  The Tigers travel to face Southwest Valley next week, while the Bulldogs will play host to Nodaway Valley.
