THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…SOUTHERN HARRISON COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA…NORTHWESTERN POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY IN SOUTHWESTERN IOWA…EAST CENTRAL WASHINGTON COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL NEBRASKA… UNTIL 430 AM CDT.
* AT 124 AM CDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. UP TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY.
* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…BLAIR…MISSOURI VALLEY…LOGAN…FORT CALHOUN…MODALE…DESOTO BEND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE…HISTORICAL VILLAGE WELCOME CENTER…WILSON ISLAND STATE PARK AND HITCHCOCK NATURE CENTER.
THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING HIGHWAYS…
HIGHWAY 30 IN IOWA BETWEEN MILE MARKERS 1 AND 5.
HIGHWAY 75 IN NEBRASKA BETWEEN MILE MARKERS 108 AND 111.
INTERSTATE 29 BETWEEN MILE MARKERS 66 AND 82.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODING.
