A motorcyclist was killed in Fort Dodge early this (Monday) morning. An officer noted a motorcycle was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed at a city intersection. The motorcycle turned west onto Seventh Avenue North and proceeded to Ninth Street where the officer pursued the driver. The operator of the motorcycle was accelerating as he was being pursued by police.

The chase ended when the motorcyclist left the road striking a mailbox and tree in the 1700 block of Williams Drive. The driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The name of the victim is being withheld until family members are notified.
