BOONE, Iowa (AP) — Police have identified the Boone man shot and killed by officers earlier this week, as well as the officers involved in the shooting. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reports that 28–year-old Michael Disbrowe died at a hospital after being shot Monday by Police Sgt. Nathan Kester and Officer Joseph Slight. Kester is a 14-year veteran of the force; Slight has served for a year.
The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave until completion of the investigation, per department policy. Investigators say officers were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. Monday after a 911 caller reported an armed man was threatening people. Officers say they found Disbrowe, who pulled a gun from his waistband. The officers say they fired after Disbrowe aimed the gun at them and began to advance.
