Person biking for charity killed by car in Iowa

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa State Patrol says a bicyclist participating in the third annual “pEDaling for Pancreatic Cancer” fundraiser was killed after being hit by a car. The Muscatine Journal reports that the crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Saturday in West Liberty. The victim’s name, age and gender have not been released.
Patrol investigators say a 28-year-old West Liberty man was driving a car southbound when he hit the bicyclist, who was also southbound. The cycling event gave riders a choice of 100-, 65-, 30- or 15-mile routes. Monday raised goes to support pancreatic cancer research. The crash remains under investigation.
