A public hearing will take place Wednesday evening (May 11th), here in Atlantic, with regard to a proposed Fiscal Year 2015-16 Certified Budget Amendment for the Atlantic Community School District. The hearing begins at 5:30-p.m. at the Schuler Elementary School Media Center, instead of the usual location at the high school. During the hearing, district patrons may speak for or against the budget amendment, with action expected to be taken later on during the Action Items portion of the Board’s agenda. According to the district, the budget amendment calls for an increase of $505,000 in the area of Instruction, with regard to donation/grant expenditures and Special Education.

In other business, the Atlantic School Board will act on approving a boys/girls swimming sharing agreement with the Audubon Community School District, and they’ll act on approving 2016-17 school fees and lunch prices. With regard to breakfast and lunch prices, Food Service Director DeeAnn Schreiner is recommending the Board approve an across the board increase of 10-cents for lunch, which amounts to $2.70 at the High School, $2.65 at the Middle and Schuler Schools, and $2.40 at Washington. She also requests a six-cent across the board for breakfast, making those meals cost $1.70. Schreiner says the main reason for the increases is that the price the district pays for food had increased. In a related note, RevTrak, an online service is available for deposits into lunch accounts, and payment of other fees. Transactions for the new school year may be made after June 30th. RevTrak replaces the PaySchools system used in the past.
