Michigan State senior Denzel Valentine is The Associated Press Big Ten player of the year and one of three unanimous choices for the all-conference first team.
Indiana guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell and Iowa forward Jarrod Uthoff also were named to the first team on every ballot in voting by media members who cover the Big Ten. The other first-team picks are Wisconsin forward Nigel Hayes and Purdue center A.J. Hammons.
Valentine finished the regular season first in the conference in scoring and assists and as the top rebounding guard.
Indiana’s Tom Crean is coach of the year, Maryland freshman center Diamond Stone is newcomer of the year, and Hammons edged out teammate Raphael Davis for defensive player of the year.
