Iowa women race past Michigan in Big Ten second round

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Megan Gustafson had a career-high 25 points with 10 rebounds, one of three Iowa players with double-doubles, as the ninth-seeded Hawkeyes defeated eight-seed Michigan 97-85 in the Big Ten Tournament second round on Thursday.

Iowa (19-12) will face league-champion and fifth-ranked Maryland in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Megan Coley had 20 points and 10 rebounds — with career highs of six blocks and six assists — and Tania Davis had 10 points and a career-high 10 assists for the Hawkeyes. Ally Disterhoft made all four of her 3-pointers and had 22 points.

The Hawkeyes, trailing 29-21 after one quarter, scored 31 points in the second quarter for a 52-42 lead. It was their biggest quarter and biggest half of the season.

Iowa was 8 of 12 from the field and 10 of 12 from the line in the fourth quarter. The Hawkeyes finished at 61 percent (37 of 61), including 8 of 12 on 3s, with a season best 12 blocks.

Katelyn Flaherty had 31 points and Hallie Thome 15, all in the first half, for the Wolverines (17-13).
