Sophomores must play big for Hawkeyes
August 14th, 2015 by Ric Hanson
A key to success for the Iowa offense this season may rest with the development of two sophomore tackles. Webster City native Boone Myers and Ike Boettger from Cedar Falls have been called on to replace Outland Trophy winner Brandon Scherff and Andrew Donnal. Iowa offensive line coach Brian Ferentz says both players just need experience.
Ferentz says like any other position group it will be up to the seniors to lead the way. He says the switch to C.J. Beathard at quarterback will have little impact on the offensive line. Originally recruited as a tight end, Boettger gained 60 pounds to make the transition to right tackle. Boettger believes as a unit they will be ready for the season opener.
The Hawkeyes open at home on September fifth against Illinois State.
