KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Mark Buehrle pitched seven strong innings, Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Kansas City 6-2 Saturday to snap the Royals’ six-game winning streak. Buehrle limited the Royals to two runs and five hits while improving to 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA in his past four starts against them.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Andrew McCutchen’s two-run home run in the 14th inning capped Pittsburgh’s third rally of the night and the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 Saturday night. Jhonny Peralta’s single off Vance Worley in the top of the inning drove in Matt Carpenter and gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals recalled relievers Sam Tuivailala and Nick Greenwood from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday to bolster the bullpen for the final two games before the All-Star break. Right-hander Mitch Harris was placed on the disabled list and first baseman Xavier Scruggs was sent down to Memphis.
SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Jordan Spieth shot a career-best 10-under 61 Saturday to grab a two-shot lead at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Spieth, who will try for his third straight major title next week at the British Open, was at 17-under 196 after the best round of the tournament since Steve Stricker shot a 60 five years ago.
