NIACC and IWCC advance to NJCAA World Series

The North Iowa Area Community College Baseball team and former Atlantic player Chad Christensen are headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II World Series.  NIACC (48-14) hit six home runs and had 20 hits in a 22-4 deciding game win over Southeast Community College in the North Plains District Tournament championship game played in Beatrice, NE Monday, May 18th.  Former Atlantic standout and Sophomore Pitcher Chad Christensen played a large part in the deciding win by coming on in relief in the 3rd inning and allowing no runs in 7 innings of work.  The Trojans won the three game series after hanging on for a 9-8 win in the opening game on Sunday.  SCC won the second game as part of a doubleheader Sunday 17-1 to force game three.

chad_christensenNIACC moves on the to NJCAA DII World Series in Enid, Oklahoma played May 23-30.  The World Series tournament features 10 teams and the opening game for the Trojans will be on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00pm versus the Kellogg Community College Bruins (37-14) of Battle Creek, Michigan.

Iowa Western Community College also advanced to the NJCAA Division I World Series with a 7-3 victory over Kaskaskia in the Northern District championship game. It’s the Reivers’ 16th trip to the NJCAA World Series.  IWCC will take their 52-5 record to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, CO with an opening game against South Carolina Sumter (42-18) at 4:00pm Saturday, May 23rd.
