WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say police officers in Waterloo have shot at a man accused of driving into an officer during an early morning dispute involving dozens of people. The state Department of Criminal Investigation says 27-year-old Javon Webb is hospitalized in critical but stable condition following the early Sunday shooting in Waterloo. The officer struck by a car was treated at a hospital and later released. Waterloo police responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a fight involving about 40 people outside a bar parking lot.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say heavy winds escalated an apartment complex fire in Des Moines that displaced residents. KCCI TV says the fire was reported Saturday around 7 p.m. at Eastridge Apartments in northeast Des Moines. There are no reports of injuries to residents.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A radio host in the Iowa City area is getting a little help from his friends to offset medical costs from a recent liver transplant. The Press Citizen reports family, friends and co-workers surrounded 41-year-old Tommy Lang, a host on radio station KCJJ, for a fundraising event Saturday that was expected to bring in a few thousand dollars. An online website has also raised more than $14,000.
CHICAGO (AP) — A University of Iowa student from suburban Chicago has died after being seriously injured earlier this year while studying in Rome, Italy. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said 20-year-old Andrew Mogni died Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
