A Council Bluffs man charged with attempted murder faces prison time after allegedly striking a man in the head with a sledgehammer. The Daily NonPareil reports 54-year old Christopher C. McNeal, was arrested last Thursday on a warrant for attempted murder, willful injury causing serious bodily injury, assault and first-degree burglary. Police say the charges stem from an incident at a garage in the 1700 block of Avenue G, on Feb. 22 nd.
According to Sgt. Chad Meyers, a 48-year-old Council Bluffs man had been working in a garage when McNeal entered and asked to use some tools to work on something. The 48-year-old didn’t own the garage and had been asked by the owner to not let anyone else in the garage, so he asked McNeal to leave. An argument ensued and McNeal allegedly hit the 48-year-old on the head with a sledgehammer, causing him to lose consciousness for nearly 24 hours. The alleged victim suffered from bleeding on the brain and is still recovering.
McNeal remains held in the Pottawattamie County Jail on $200,000 bond.
