DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police say an arrest has been made in the hit-and-run death of a 55-year-old man. Reports of a person in the road in eastern Des Moines led officers early yesterday to the discovery of the body of Kenneth Wallace. But by late Saturday afternoon, police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Ashley Kay Brown. She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and not having insurance.
MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Cerro Gordo County magistrate has ordered the eviction of five occupants from a Clear Lake motel. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that Magistrate Patrick Byrne issued the order Friday. Silver Boot Motel owner Ted Christensen went to court to have the occupants evicted because they have refused to leave.
WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — Wartburg College in northeast Iowa has announced a $75 million fundraising effort — and it’s already raised nearly three-quarters of the goal. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that for two years, the college has been quietly raising money — garnering nearly $54 million — for its “Transforming Tomorrow” capital campaign.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Will Likely returned an interception 45 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown, and Maryland rallied to beat Iowa 38-31 Saturday for its first Big Ten home victory. Iowa (5-2, 2-1) committed three turnovers in College Park, Maryland.
