An ATV accident Monday afternoon in Shelby County has claimed the life of a 79-year old man, near Earling. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Charles Mumm, of Earling, died at the scene of the crash near 2222 Dogwood Road, at around 5:30-p.m.

Mumm was found in a field near the residence, with the ATV nearby. An investigation determined he lost control of the machine in the field due to large washout ruts and possibly mechanical failure.

Dunlap Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, along the Shelby County Medical Examiner.
