In an update to the story we brought you during our overnight news on KJAN, a motorcycle accident early Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a Pottawattamie County man. In a Press Release, Council Bluffs Police Sgt. Darren Budd said 51-year old Todd Ronnfeldt, of Council Bluffs, died at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha following the accident that happened at around 1:45-p.m, on Interstate 29 near the North 16th Street exit.
Sgt. Budd said Ronnfeldt was heading northbound on a 2001 Harley Davidson, when according to witness reports, another motorcyclist who rode alongside Ronnfeldt lost control of their bike, causing Ronnfeldt to swerve off the east side of the road. Ronnfeldt was thrown into the air, traveled through a ditch and landed on top of the I-29 on-ramp. The man was not wearing a helmet, and suffered from severe head trauma.
Witness told police said both motorcyclists knew each other, but authorities were not been able to locate the other person. Police shutdown traffic to northbound I-29 from 16th Street for about three hours. Police say impairment and speed are under possible causes of the crash, which remains under investigation.
