March 10th, 2014 by Jim Field
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State seniors and All-Big 12 First-Team members DeAndre Kane and Melvin Ejim were named to various All-America teams this afternoon.
Kane was named Third-Team All-American by BleacherReport.com, Sporting News and NBCSports.com. Ejim joined Kane on NBCSports.com’s third team.
Kane has been a stat-sheet stuffer for the Cyclones, averaging 17.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game after transferring from Marshall this season. Kane has scored 20 or more points in 13 games, including a stellar performance against Baylor early in the conference season in which he had 30 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals. Kane has earned six weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference.
Ejim, the 2014 Big 12 Player of the Year, ranks second in the Big 12 in both scoring (18.2) and rebounding (8.6). Ejim became just the fourth player in Big 12 history to record 1,500 points and 1,000 points in a career. His 48-point performance vs. TCU broke the Big 12 single-game scoring mark earlier this season.
The duo are the 10th and 11th Cyclones to make a first-, second- or third-team All-America list from a national outlet.
