University of Iowa hosting women’s diving championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Murphy Bromberg was the leading qualifier going into the women’s 10-meter platform final at the U.S. national diving championships Wednesday. She set a pool record with 373.20 points at the University of Iowa. That bettered the mark of 357.70 set by Olympian Brittany Viola in 2011.
Cheyenne Cousineau, who was Bromberg’s synchro partner at last month’s world championships in Spain, qualified second in the semifinals with 301.35. Emma Villarreal was third at 296.20. The top 12 divers advanced to Saturday’s final. In the men’s 3-meter springboard semis, Hayden Jones was the leading qualifier at 454.10.
Steele Johnson was second at 423.45, and Michael Hixon was third at 423.25. Sam Dorman, who won the 1-meter title on Tuesday, qualified ninth. The meet runs through Sunday.
