Cardinals activate Molina, place Cruz on DL

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals activated All-Star catcher Yadier Molina from the 15-day disabled list after he was sidelined with a right knee sprain. Molina was in the lineup Thursday against the Pirates in the finale of a 10-game homestand. They also active outfielder Shane Robinson, who had a shoulder strain.

Backup catcher Tony Cruz, who started 11 of the 14 games that Molina missed, was placed on the 15-day DL with a stress fracture of his left forearm. Infielder Jermaine Curtis was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.  Molina’s .330 average was second in the National League and he was batting .383 with runners in scoring position.

Robinson, who was batting .263 in 65 games, appeared in three games for Double-A Springfield during an injury rehabilitation assignment. Cruz was batting .212 with one homer and 11 RBIs in 41 games.
