Area School Board meetings set for Monday evening
August 18th, 2013 by Ric Hanson
A trio of area school district Boards of Education are set to meet during separate sessions Monday evening. The Griswold School Board meeting gets underway at 5:30-p.m. On their agenda is updates on the boiler system, restroom locker remodel, the track, and a proposal from Massena Telephone Company. The Board will also receive information on bakery bids, and act on what to do with Senior Meals for 2013-2014.
The CAM School Board will meet at 7-p.m. Monday, at the High School in Anita. The big topic of discussion and possible action, will be with regard to Tax Increment Financing on wind turbines, for the City of Massena. Cass County Auditor Dale Sunderman reports the CAM School board had earlier filed a resolution opposing use of TIF. Massena council member Linda Reineke and John McCurdy stated at a recent Board of Supervisor’s meeting, that the CAM School board was not in opposition to the use of TIF by Massena. County Engineer Charles Marker said at the same Supervisor’s meeting, that he would rather see the county implement tax increment financing (TIF) in lieu of Massena doing so. Before the county could include 38 wind turbines in a TIF area, the city would have to give its consent.
The CAM School Board will also discuss and possible act on a “Race to the Top” consortium grant. Prior to adjournment, they will move into a closed session for an evaluation of Superintendent Steve Pelzer.
And, the Elk Horn-Kimballton School Board will meet at 7-p.m. Monday at the High School in Elk Horn. The Board will act on approving the resignation of P-E & Health Teacher Scott Yates and Para Educator Andrea Welch, along with assigning contracts to seven individual instructors and/or staff members. The EHK Board will also discuss Bus pickups, activity practices, the National FFA Conference, and discuss and possibly take action on: approving a bid for the driveway into the Sports Complex; a revised Superintendent contract; and matters pertaining to buses and an SUV.
