DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa women’s basketball team has earned a berth in the NCAA tournament for the sixth year in a row. The Hawkeyes (20-12) are a No. 9 seed and will host eighth-seeded Miami (21-10) on Sunday. The winner will likely face No. 1 seed Notre Dame on Tuesday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Fighting Irish face 16th-seeded Tennessee-Martin in the other first-round matchup Sunday in Iowa City. Iowa has been inconsistent all season, winning seven straight at one point and also losing five in a row. But the Hawkeyes also beat six ranked opponents and finished with a strong RPI. Notre Dame (31-1) is the Big East champion. The Irish, whose only loss is to No. 1 Baylor, beat Connecticut for the league title.
