CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) – A dozen dogs rescued from a western Iowa puppy mill are now going to new homes. 12 of the 16 cocker spaniels sent to the Cedar Valley Humane Society nearly a month ago were put up for adoption Saturday. Dozens of families showed up at the shelter to adopt the dogs. The cocker spaniels were among 87 dogs and one cat rescued from a farm in rural Kiron. The carcasses of five dead animals also were found when officials searched the farm on Jan. 25th. Authorities say up to five dogs were stuffed into 4-by-4 wire cages stacked on top of each other. A Sac County woman who ran the operation has pleaded not guilty to 93 counts of animal neglect.
